Overview
Mages in World of Warcraft are spell-casting characters designed to deal damage, while also preventing monsters from dealing damage and providing utility for the rest of their party.
Information
Mages are defined by their ability to cast various spells, specializing in area of effect damage spells. Mage spells fit into three categories: Fire, Frost, and Arcane.
In addition to dealing damage, mages have the ability to remove monsters (or other players) from a fight, preventing them from dealing damage or using abilities. Outside the battlefield, mages possess handy abilities. They can conjure food and water, saving money for themselves and their party members. They can also teleport themselves and members of their party to major cities, saving potentially enormous amounts of time and money.
Talents
Mages are able to build into the Arcane, Fire or Frost talent trees.
The arcane tree tends to be utility oriented with abilities that effect all magic schools, increase mana regeneration and mana pool, along with armor and magic resistance bonuses.
The fire tree tends to be damage oriented with abilities to decrease casting time, increase damage potential, and adding a significant damage over time to some fire spells.
The frost tree tends to be damage and defense oriented with abilities to decrease casting time, increase damage potential, add slowing or freezing effects, and various barriers.
