Overview
In World of Warcraft, the Warlock is a magic-using class that wields some of their power by summoning demon servants (called "minions"). Warlocks can also harm enemies by cursing them as well as by casting spells that cause a certain amount of damage over a set amount of time. Warlocks are somewhat similar to the Necromancer Class in the game Diablo II (also published by Blizzard).
Information
Warlocks are summoners who bring forth demons and create magical stones to aid them in battle. They also have the ability to summon other players to their location. They are very similar to mages, but instead of focusing on large increments of damage in a short amount of time, they lay on spells that deal large amounts of damage over time. In order to summon their demons and create their magical stones, they require Soul Shards. Although Warlocks are considered to be of evil alignment, they are masters of their own will and are not controlled by the Burning Legion.
Warlocks mainly utilize damage over time (DoT) spells and curses (debuffs) as opposed to direct damage spells, although the Warlock direct damage spell shadow bolt is used extensively in end-game instances. While a Mage may cast fireball for instant damage, the Warlock's DoT spells (e.g. corruption) deal a continuous amount of damage to the target over a set period of time. Both spell styles have advantages and disadvantages. The Warlock, can generally continue to perform other damaging activities while their DoT spells are in effect.
Strengths
Summon Demons - Warlocks have minions which are powerful. These demons add a great deal to the combat power of the Warlock.
Fighting demons - Warlocks are especially good at fighting demons and elementals due to several spells which only affect enemies of that type.
Summoning players - Warlocks can summon other members of their group from anywhere in the world with the help of two other group members.
Soul Stone - Warlocks can cast a spell (Soul Stone) which allows one person per half hour to come back from death.
Mounts - Warlocks do not need to purchase a mount, instead receiving one by completing a series of quests. The epic mount is attainable through a longer series of quests.
Crowd control - Warlocks have an ability called Fear. Fear causes the target to run, unable to act for up to 20 seconds, and can be recast on the same target at any time.
Weaknesses
Soul Shards - Warlocks must use up Soul Shards to summon demons, cast soul stones, create health stones, etc.
Difficult to Control Demons - The most powerful demons are rarely used by Warlocks, because not long after being summoned the demon will turn on the Warlock and attack him.
Long recovery times - A killed Warlock needs time after resurrection to regain strength.
Slow Castings - Warlocks may have spells that take a long time to cast, giving a melee attacker a prime chance to deal ultimate damage.
Summonables
Warlocks can learn to summon a number of different demons as they advance levels.

Warlocks can learn to summon a number of different demons as they advance levels.
- The Imp is a tiny demon that has very small amount of health but can do a fair amount of damage. It is the only demon that can be summoned without the use of a soul shard.
- The Voidwalker, has a large amount of hit points and acts as a tank by taunting its enemy.
- The Succubus, has only a modest amount of health but it does a good deal of damage with her attacks. The succubus also has an ability to make herself invisible.
- The Felhunter, attacks quickly and is good for disabling casters.
- The Felsteed is the Warlock's mount which is obtained as a quest without charge from a vendor.
- The Infernal is a powerful and destructive demon. Unfortunately the infernal will only remain under the Warlock's control for 5 minutes before it turns and attacks the summoner.
- The Doomguard is another powerful demon that combines a melee attack with some devastating spells.
